  • Is that Cathy's real hair?

    It is amazing how many times I hear that question. Yes, this is all my real hair. I do not like fake hair and have never used it. Also none of my pictures are retouched.

  • What stores carry Ultra Black Hair products?

  • What moisturizer should I use?

    UBH manufactures and sells two moisturizers: Satin Creme Moisturizer (formally Lotion Creme) and Silky Spray Moisturizer (formally Dew Spray).

    Satin Creme is great for natural, relaxed or pressed hair styles. With relaxed hair you can use either the Silky Spray or the Satin Crème Moisturizer. Our creme moisturizer is what most of our customers prefer and I recommend as it keeps my hair soft and not greasy. It also helps to extend your retouchs when you relax your hair and is a must for smoothing your new growth.

  • Do I need to trim my hair to make it grow?

    NO!! One of the reasons I do not regularly trim my hair is to prove that trimming the ends off has absolutely nothing to do with hair growth. It is surprising how many people believe this myth. I have honestly heard people say "if you cut your hair it grows back faster." This is not true! Hair is not like a rose bush, when you trim off the end another piece of hair does not shoot out! Trimming the hair for growth is a myth that is carried on and on by the hair care industry! Trimming the ends has absolutely nothing to do with hair growth!!

  • What hair color can I use on my relaxed hair?

    The only color I have used and recommend you use on relaxed hair is Bigen. It is a permanent color that is mixed with water and it can be applied immediately after relaxing. (I also find that the color penetrates better immediately after a retouch, and because it goes into the hair shaft instead of laying on the surface of the hair you won’t have color transfer on your towels when you wash your hair!) Sally's Beauty Supply sells it. Yes there are others out there but Bigen® is the only one I have used and recommend. WARNING: Ensure you DO NOT use neither a plastic processing cap nor a hooded dryer while the color is on your hair processing. It will cause MAJOR breaking!

  • What shampoo should I use?

    After numerous requests, I have decided to make a shampoo for my product line. We released it May 2011 and you can now purchase it on our website.

    Keep in mind that any shampoo you choose should be specified for dry damaged hair, color-treated hair or chemically treated. Products with these specifications should be the proper pH. If you have dandruff it is okay to use a dandruff shampoo as long as it is specified for dry damaged hair, color-treated hair, or chemically treated.

    If you have a buildup on your hair, use a clarifying shampoo but use it only 1-2 times before switching back to something gentler.

    My shampoo will not contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate, which is a known irritant to the skin. So if your scalp is itchy, change your shampoo to one that does not contain Sodium Laurel Sulfate or its cousins.

  • Where can I get your first books?

    Sorry my first 2 books are Out-of-Print and no longer available. Ultra Black Hair Growth II 2000 is an expanded/updated version of them both. The information that was true back then still applies today.

  • When will my order ship?

    We try to ship your order same day if your order is received before 3:00 pm MST. Occasionally we will have a backorder and will ship your order as soon as our stock is replenished. Orders placed over the internet, your credit card is charged automatically when you place the order. When we are on backorder, if you are not agreeable to the wait time, please call 800-754-8751 and request your order be cancelled and your card refunded.

    New customers paying by check, slows your order down as we reserve the right to hold your order until your funds have cleared. Paying by check may delay your order up to 2 weeks.

    Our preferred carrier is UPS as they offer better tracking ability and guaranteed delivery.

    Checks are not an acceptable forms of payment for express and air mail services due to processing time. Check orders submitted through the website via PayPal, requesting air mail or express, shipping costs are corrected to UPS and mailed out in 2 weeks.

    Please Note: If you purchase UBH products and get Free shipping and the package is returned to us because you decided not to receive the package, you will be charged a $10.00 processing and handling fee. Your purchase price less the $10 fee will be refunded.

  • What is your shipping policy?

    UBH shipping policies appear below. Orders also are governed by our Terms and Conditions, which you should review.

    Continental United States Orders:

    Most internet orders placed before 3 pm MST Monday - Friday will be processed and shipped same day. Orders placed after 3 pm Friday will be processed and shipped on the following Monday. Holidays, Saturdays and Sundays are not business days. Orders placed on Saturday or Sunday will be processed and confirmed on Monday (most orders will also ship Monday).
    Confirmation of product availability and shipping tracking information will be provided to you via email after your order is processed.
    Order acceptance occurs only when your order has been shipped. We will notify you by email when that has occurred.
    Orders are shipped via UPS, or USPS. Note: UPS is our preferred carrier.
    We verify all credit cards before shipping. In some cases, this may delay stated delivery dates.
    To protect our cardholders, your shipment will be delayed for bank verification if your credit card billing address does not match what is on file with the issuing bank.
    First Time Purchaser Please Note: UBH DOES NOT ship to addresses other than billing for your first order when you use a debit or credit card as payment. (Deployed Military personnel excepted) So please do not enter a different ship to address unless you want to do a 3-way call with us to the issuing bank to verify you are the cardholder. OTHERWISE, your order will be delayed and possibly cancelled! If you have a PAYPAL account, choose that option instead of credit card.
    All International orders must include a phone number.

    Expected Delivery Dates:

    Standard Ground: 3-7 business days after order processing
    Transit days for ground shipments are business days and do not include weekends or holidays.
    UBH reserves the right to change the shipping method at its own discretion and expense.
    UBH is not responsible for delays caused by weather or other natural disasters.
    International USPS Priority Air Mail: 7-10 business days after order processing.

    Colorado residents will be charged applicable sales tax on their orders.
    All payments must be made in US dollars.
    UBH only allows one re-ship per order. This means that we will re-ship an approved return once without additional shipping and handling charges.

    USA Overnight Shipping & Handling - Please understand that choosing Overnight does not necessarily mean your order will be in your hands tomorrow. While most orders do ship on the same day, depending on when your order is received, some will be shipped on the following day. You will receive your order 1-2 days after the order has been processed, which in most cases is within 24 hours. We do not ship orders on Saturdays or Sundays. A signature may be required for your deliveries.

    Back Orders

    Occasionally we experience back orders and will ship your order as soon as our stock is replenished. Orders placed over the internet, your credit card is charged automatically when you place the order. When we have a backorder, if you are not agreeable to the wait time, please call 800-754-8751 and request your order be cancelled.
    When a back order occurs, depending on the estimated restock date, we may ship part of your order, then later ship the balance of your order when it becomes available (with no additional shipping charges).

  • What is your return policy?

    At UBH we realize there is no “one size fits all” and we pride ourselves on consumer satisfaction. We know that sometimes orders are short shipped, merchandise is broken, or the wrong product is sent. When that happens, we have the following returns policy. Please read carefully as it is strictly enforced.

    UBH provides full credit for product or replacement of defective items if available. You may return a product up to 30 days after you receive it. NO QUESTIONS ASKED.

    Returns beyond 30 days require a return authorization number and are subjected to partial reimbursement or store credits. Ineligible returns not meeting these criteria will not be accepted. Refunds will be made in the same form of payment originally used for purchase.

    Shipping charges are non-refundable.

    We will reimburse shipping charges for returns to us that were the result of our error.

    Books are nonrefundable unless defective. Defective books will be exchanged. An explanation of the nature of the defect must be included with the return.

    If you have purchased our products at one of our retailer, we suggest that you return the products to them so they may address your concerns directly.

    Please pack the item carefully and return it to the address below. We will refund your order price, less shipping charges, upon receipt of your return. Please email us for any additional return information and please include the following information with your returned goods and send to the address below.

    What happens if your shipment is returned as "undeliverable?"

    Although we try to verify every new customer address in the US Postal dBase, sometimes a customer will give us an address for delivery that the Post Office or UPS cannot deliver to. If your address is incomplete or otherwise incorrect, your package may be returned to us. If this happens, UBH will try to contact you to resolve the issue and reship. If we are unsuccessful in contacting you, the order purchase price will be refunded minus shipping charges.

    What happens if your shipment is unclaimed?

    If you have provided us with an email address, a tracking number will be sent to you via email so you will know when your shipment will arrive. You should look to receive your package in approximately one week. Sometimes, the carrier will say they have left a notice and the customer reports they have not gotten one. UPS will typically make several attempts to contact you. The Post Office will usually only make one attempt. After a period of time, unclaimed packages are returned to us. If packages are not claimed and are returned to us, UBH will refund the purchase price minus shipping costs.


    Items returned to us because you changed your mind (buyer’s remorse) will be subject to a 25% re-stocking fee.. of the total purchase of the original order

  • Do you guarantee your products will make hair grow?

    Anybody who guarantees that what they sell can make your hair grow, I would be very leery of for the simple fact that neither they nor I know what you are doing to your hair, how you care for it and what is going on in your body hormonally etc. You can say you use my products but if you still do all the bad things you were doing to your hair, you still will not have hair. The same is true of some medical conditions that have a negative effect on hair. So the answer is no, I do not guarantee that if you use my product that your hair will grow. I will say that if your problem is the same as mine, dry hair, then this system when used in accordance with my methods, you should be able to correct the problems you have with your hair and add length.

    Anybody who gives you a "guarantee" that they can grow you hair is pulling your leg. I do not guarantee I can grow your hair because I do not know what you are doing to your hair, what condition your body is in (hormones etc.) so therefore it would be very foolish for anyone to say they guarantee something will work.

    If your hair is relaxed or natural and it is dry and breaks constantly, then this will help you. I have never had long hair in my life but learning how to care for my hair has produced length that I had only dreamed of in the past. So if you are looking for something that will give you the knowledge to take care of your hair and to grow it if that is what you choose, this system will work for you.

  • Can I get a free sample of your products?

  • I dont have a credit card and am an international customer. How can I order your products?

    Follow these instructions for International ordering with a check or money order.

    (Note if you send a check your order will be delayed. Orders using money Orders ship same day.)

Featured Hair Tips

Hair Tip 1

I am still unclear on co-washing. Could you provide greater detail as to why you do not support co-washing?

My thoughts are, when you take a shower you don’t rub lotion all over your body and say you had a shower, you use soap. When you wash your clothes, you don’t put fabric softener in the machine and say your clothes have been washed. The same is true of your hair. You cant possibly "wash" your hair with conditioner. Conditioner will not remove oil, dandruff, dust particles etc from your hair. So basically you are only conditioning your hair and never washing it if you never use shampoo - not something I recommend.

 

Hair Tip 2

Why do you not support using hair brushes?

Hair brushes destroy the hair shaft of afro textured hair (even when it is straightened). Any white person that wears a perm will tell you they don’t use a brush on permed hair. But we are taught as children that we are to brush our hair to stimulate our scalp. Brushes break the hair in the middle of the hair shaft. (brushing my hair was one of the experiments I did when I was researching black hair. I actually brushed bald spots in the crown of my head, trying to brush it to make it grow down my back). It is a myth that we need to brush our hair and when we do brush, it destroys our hair.

 

Hair Tip 3

My hair is relaxed and I workout 5 - 6 days a week. I sweat a lot to the point of my hair is soaked like I just washed it. How do I keep my hair from breaking?

Sweat does not break your hair. That is a myth. I workout 5 days a week and am dripping sweat too. It has no adverse effect on your hair.

Hair Tip 4

Is it safe to use WEN and UBH conditioner together? Wen is supposed to replace deep conditioner shampoo detangle conditioner.

WEN is a product that is marketed to ALL hair types. Afro hair characteristics are very different than straight hair. You have only seen them demonstrate on a "curly" hair model (what we used to call "good hair") Never have you seen them "transform" a Kinky hair model on stage and you never will. A curl is different than a coil. I also strongly disagree with "co-washing" which is what they are advocating with their shampoo/conditioner product. I have no plans to try WEN because based on what I know to be true about afro hair and what I see WEN is offering, WEN in my opinion does not address the REAL needs of afro textured hair!
